8th June 2002: Port Headland – Coongan River (near Marble Bar)

Say goodbye to our fellow campers, pick up supplies & petrol and head toward to Marble Bar almost 200kms away. We set up camp on the Coongan River around 45kms north of Marble Bar. Amazingly we are the only campers here for our two nights stay. We have an easy afternoon relaxing and explore the area the next day visiting Dolena Gorge, Kitty’s Gap and Copping Gap. The drive to Kitty’s Gap is on a pretty rough 4WD track but with good scenery… plenty of red dirt and greenery after the recent rains.

Mount Augustus

10th May 2002: Gladstone – Carnarvon

We make our way to Carnarvon where we decide to spend a few days catching up on maintenance of the camper, shopping, washing, etc. We also book a flight for Julie’s dad from Melbourne to Broome in mid-June so he can join us for around 11 weeks while we explore the Kimberley region.

16th April 2002: Stirling Ranges National Park – Cape Richie

Our quick set up – hiking tent & bivouac

Broke camp in overcast conditions that saw some light drizzle. Off to the Lily Windmill – a replica of a Dutch windmill. Drove south to Cape Riche to have a look and decided to camp there as not many around (which was surprising after Parry Beach & Cosy Corner). Quick camp set up with the hiking tent & bivouac.

Western Australia – first days

20 January 2002: Nullarbor Roadhouse – Caiguna

Into WA for our first time – we have now officially been to every state & territory of Australia!

Extensive quarantine on the border involving the loss of honey, lettuce and zucchini. Stop at Cocklebiddy Cave where we descend into an amazing underground lake some 150 metres into the earth. Then onto Caiguna, our 3rd timezone for the day) for an overnight stop.
