Bell Gorge

27th June 2002: Winjana Gorge – Bell Creek

We make our way to the famous Gibb River Road (GRR) travelling around 90kms along its length and passing some great scenery, in particular the King Leopold Ranges. Bell Gorge is 29kms off the GRR with two creek crossing required between the GRR and the gorge.

While the first campsite is situated at Silent Grove, we were lucky to pick up one of the last of the 10 private bush sites at Bell Creek which was a further 7kms further along the road.

Each of the 10 campsites at Bell Creek were well spaced out and surrounded by native bush making it feel very private. Best of all they backed onto the beautiful Bell Creek where we swam each day. (Note: This campsite was closed in 2010). We were also lucky to be visited by some friendly Bandicoots each night.

We do the short walk into the spectacular Bell Gorge twice during our stay as its very close to camp. Arriving at the top of the falls, we climb to the bottom each time for a refreshing swim and enjoy the surrounds.

We celebrate Dad’s 72nd birthday during our stay and visit the Imintji store for supplies and and petrol. Passing Lennard Gorge on our way, we cool off in its lower and upper pools, enjoying the beautiful scenery.

The Bell Gorge area was definitely a highlight!
