24th April 2002: Leonora – Mt Magnet
We head off 125kms north together with Harry & Roselyn on the old Agnew Road to the place of the same name (good dirt road) and then west to Sandstone where we looked around some historic sights – London Bridge, Brewery and Contradiction Wall. Then headed off further west to Mt Magnet.
25th April 2002: Mt Magnet – Perth
With different timetables, we say fond farewells to our travelling buddies and commence heading south. Harry & Roselyn were heading west to Geralton (300kms) and then north, while we were heading south to Perth (500kms), staying for few days and then heading north at slower pace. But you never know! Perhaps we visit them in Europe some time?
After about 420kms we hit New Norcia, a town classified by the National Trust. It is essentially a monastery of Benedictine Monks, which operate a farm, bakery, schools (now defunct) and tours. The town started circa 1843… fascinating history. We leave here around late afternoon and drive 130kms south to Perth.

Domestic duties (car serviced, equipment maintenance, photos, food supplies for the next leg of our travels, etc), together with some more exploring of Perth – walking along the Swan River, Heirsson Island, Perth Mint…..
Julie's Gold Rush
After visiting the goldfields of Kalgoorlie,
"I need a new ring for my finger", uttered Julie,
A sturdy ring, perhaps with a nugget design,
Upon my pretty hand it would look divine.
So the wares of Kalgoorlie were eyed,
"Perhaps I don't really need one", Julie lied,
It didn't fool me, I soon picked up on the hint,
Why not wait 'til Perth and have a look at the mint.
Off to the said establishment we went,
You didn't need to be quick to follow Julie's intent,
I suppose she was prospecting in her own way,
With traditional discovery methods she was not very au fait.
Like the intrepid Paddy Hannan Julie did strike,
I somehow think the two are alike,
Drawn to the allure of the magnificent yellow stuff,
Though my having to pay for the fine was a little rough.
