Central Australia Safari

Our central-Kakadu camping safari tour was a hectic, but very enjoyable one, not only for the bit beautiful places we visited but also the real nice people we met on the way.

It was a hectic in the sense that for three weeks we were on the go all the time, pulling up stakes every day at 6:00 am.. and we were also expected to help the cook and the bus driver with the cooking and all other domestic chores.

It became physically very tiring, especially for some of the “oldies”, but that was overshadowed by pleasant memories of the tour and the fantastic highlights most of which came to memory easily: the Stockman’s Fame at Long Reach, Lawn Hill Gorge, Yellow River cruise, Katherine Gorge, our bush camps at Palm Valley, the beautiful sunsets and our nights around the campfires. The Alexander Cattle Station, Kings Canyon and outback road houses.

The climbing of the Ayers Rock in the fierce wind. Sleeping in a dug out in Coober Pedy and all the wildlife we saw on the way. The contrast of the white ghost gums against the red ochre in Palm Valley and Lawn Hill Gorge was amazing.

Looking back on that tour I would say it was one of the most exiting holidays Marg and I have enjoyed and we would recommend the adventure to anyone with the necessary stamina to undertake such a physically demanding trip.
