The other safari camping adventure we took part in was the Great Barrier Reef – Birdsville Track tour.
Another interesting, but very hectic trip and we really enjoyed ourselves despite the fact that we didn’t strike as good a crew as we did on our previous safari and we also started the tour with Marg not feeling 100% after being ill for some time beforehand.
She came good pretty quickly however and after that we had a great time and we were able to enjoy all of the beautiful places we visited, most of which we’ll return to in hopefully the not too distant future.
Places like Frazer Island, Great Keppel Island, Palm Bay Resort on Long Island, the Outer Reef cruise and snorkelling amongst the tropical fish while viewing the colourful coral formation, the Kuranga Railway trip (the most scenic train ride in Australia), historical Cooktown, the Atherton Tablelands, the beautiful sunset on the Gulf of Carpenteria at Normanton, the Birdsville Track and Pub, the Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound and finally the last leg of the journey through citrus country in the Murray Valley.
This was probably the last time we’ll participated in an organised tour of this magnitude but we thoroughly enjoyed both trips and it showed us what a diverse and magnificent country Australia really is and it also educated us to the hazards and pitfalls we are certain to encounter on future trips we’ll make by ourselves.
