6th January 2002: Farina – William Creek
260km trip along the Oodnadatta Track. Lots of stops along the way….
- Lake Eyre South
- Dog Fence – a 5,400km fence from near the Gold Coast, Queensland, to Ceduna, South Australia, to keep dingoes north away from sheep.
- Blanches Cup/Bubbler – mound springs. Water bubbles to the surface from the Artesian Bore and forms mounds with spring pools at the top.
- Coward Springs – an outdoor spring pool (2m x 2m) bubbling from underground it is a great refresher.
- William Creek Pub – where we camp out the back.
7th January 2002: William Creek – Glendambo
166kms of unmade roads to Cooper Pedy (west) and then 250kms south/south east to Glendambo (roadside camping spot).
8th January 2002: Glendambo – Whyalla
About a 400km trip via back roads. Some cleaning of the car & equipment required at Whyalla. Weather a very hot 43 degrees on one of the days, our hottest so far!
11th January 2002: Whyalla – Port Lincoln
We pack up in very windy conditions and drive south for about 230km to Port Lincoln where we spend a few days exploring the spectacular coastline and bays.
15th January 2002: Port Lincoln – Yangie Bay (Coffin Bay National Park)
Easy 45km drive, camping at Yangie Bay (nice basic campsite).
17th January 2002: Yangie Bay (Coffin Bay National Park) – Port Kenny
We travel along the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula. Scenic drive to Elliston and then along cliffs to Anxious Bay, Walkers Rocks, Talia Caves and an overnight stop at Port Kenny.

18th January 2002: Port Kenny – Ceduna
While 175km via the conventional highway route, we spent all day driving down the west side of the Eyre Penisula on backroads and 4WD tracks – Venus Bay, Murphy’s Haystacks, Tyrina Beach, Baird Bay, Point Labbatt, Sceale Bay, Streaky Bay and Smoky Bay and then Ceduna (the last bastion before heading across the Nullarbor).
19th January 2002: Ceduna – Nullarbor Roadhouse
It took all day to do 300km. Stopped at Point de Hunte, Cactus Beach (for a swim), Head of Bight (saw some dolphins at the base of the impressive cliffs). Did you know “Nullarbor” is Latin for “treeless plain”.
