“I reckon I’ve got you this time,” ‘Never Give Up’ Emptyhead was at it again. You had to hand it to him, he was absolutely relentless.
“Who sang: ‘Catch a Falling Star’?”
“Perry Como.”
“Geez, how do you know all these guys? I mean, they lived a squillion years ago.”
“I’ve got all his records and a lot of others from the same era. Think about it mate, those crooners were a dime a dozen.”
“What records? Name some of them.”
“Well, there’s ‘Perry Como sings Led Zepplin’, ‘Black Sabbath Plays the Norman Tabernacle Choir’, ‘Nana Mouskouri sings Bruce Springsteen’, ‘Judas Priest Sings Pavarotti’ to name but a few.”
“If I give you a couple of blank tapes, can you tape some for me?”
“Forget it E.H.”
A couple of minutes went by and ‘Empty’ started to sing one of the latest hit numbers (he fancied himself as a bit of a talent). I said “E.H., Can you sing tenor?”
“What tenor?”
“Ten or twenty miles away.”
“Good one mate.”
“Can you sing solo?”
“What do you mean?”
“So low no bastard can hear you.”
“That’s very funny Tony. A real knee slapper that one.”
